Jess Gallacher, ILP Operations Manager

you're invited to an inspiring ILP event - on 16th may at 6pm

How can you help people and do something positive in this world?

Does your career benefit the public? Could it, and should it?
How should we, the lighting community, use our skills and technology to contribute to a better world, one year before the UNESCO International Day of Light?
The ILP is a charity which exists to help share lighting knowledge in order to benefit the public.
Come along to a friendly evening packed with talks and displays which will inform and inspire you, and equip you to do your important and helpful job more effectively.

Confirmed Activities:

Michael Grubb from Michael Grubb Studio will explore ethics in lighting. A lot of lighting work involves luxurious wealthy sites - how to square this with being true to your values and social conscience?
Paul Traynor from Light Bureau will talk about democratic design. Most people appreciate that good design can really improve life, so the obvious question arises - why does bad design exist? Access to good design can be influenced by several factors: awareness and availability are two - but cost is arguably the main reason. It's time to discuss how we can remove cost as a barrier to good design, through examples of what other professionals have done and what we as lighting designers could achieve.
ILP design practice members Nulty+ will also be giving a talk specially created for the event.
Steve Anderson will be on hand to explain the importance of STEM ambassadors in schools. Could you help tackle the skills gap?
Make your pledge to do something specific ‘by this day next year’ when the annual UNESCO day will officially begin.
