the ilp invites you to become an equality, diversity and inclusion champion image

Jess Gallacher, ILP Operations Manager

We know it is important to include everyone in the work we do to improve the world through lighting. So, we are asking for your help. We are inviting members to become ILP Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champions. These are volunteers who help make the ILP better by ensuring that diversity and inclusion is integrated into everything we do. EDI Champions are called on for their opinions and experience during planning for ILP activities and development, and reviewing policy. It doesn’t take heaps of time, it can be done remotely without travelling, and counts towards Continuing Professional Development.

At the Institution of Lighting Professionals, we value diversity and the different perspectives people from different backgrounds bring to their work and to the engineering profession. It is the ILP's policy to ensure that no member of whatever grade, applicant for membership, job applicant or employee, visitor or event participant is disadvantaged or receives less favourable treatment because of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or marriage and civil partnership.

Everyone at the ILP has a role to play in ensuring individuals are valued, treated with dignity and respect and that discrimination does not occur. Every member of staff and volunteer working on behalf of the ILP is responsible for ensuring they read and implement relevant policies, objectives and working practices linked to equality of opportunity and diversity to ensure that all people that they come into contact with on behalf of the ILP are accorded equality of opportunity at all stages of engagement with the ILP.

We recently began our first survey into the diversity of the ILP membership. This will be carried out every year to see how the ILP is made up and how well our membership reflects the society we serve.
