OUR VISION: the Institution of Lighting Professionals unites the skills of engineering, design and technology in order to deliver quality lighting for the built environment and to achieve public benefit.
You can be part of something important
Lighting designers, consultants, engineers and all professionals working to deliver "excellence in lighting" make up the most influential professional lighting association in the UK and Ireland.
You can help lighting change the world
A registered charity committed to raising awareness about the importance of lighting, the ILP supports lighting for crime prevention, urban beautification, road safety, healthier lives and public benefit.
You can influence government
The ILP is regularly consulted by governments on legislation and regulations: we ensure that proposed measures are both effective and practicable and represent members' views.
You can support young lighting professionals
The Young Lighting Professionals group is part of the ILP and provides a special focus for those interested in or developing a career in lighting.

You can learn and develop at relevant events and training
The ILP organises regular educational lighting events, exhibitions, conferences and forums. We focus on making events accessible, relevant and affordable, to provide you with an easy way to learn about the latest in lighting.
You can demonstrate your competence
CDM guidance requires employers to ensure lighting designers are competent. Our Continuous Professional Development programme enables you to acquire, maintain and update skills and demonstrate competence. You can achieve your full potential, reach personal objectives, strengthen professional credibility and accelerate career development.
You can rely on the Institution for professional advice
Our technical study panels contribute to British, European and International Standards and produce technical reports on a wide range of lighting topics, providing essential guidance to the profession. Technical advice is available via the Institution's Professional Service Managers.
You can gain professional credibility
Only the ILP can grant permission for the post nominal letters AMILP, MILP and FILP to appear after your name. We also provide a registration service for EngTech, IEng and CEng and guide you through the process.
You can network locally and nationally with your peers
The ILP's seven regional groups and national team all run a busy programme of events and communications. Face to face and digitally, you can build a strong network of lighting contacts happy to share knowledge, advice and support.
You can save a lot of money
ILP members receive a 40% discount on most on most of our training, events and publications. With annual membership fees starting from £170, it makes great financial sense to join the ILP.
