The Lighting is for People by Mark Sutton Vane
Lighting schemes are designed for people; lighting can do so much more than illumination. Lighting can add to branding, it can create an atmosphere or reinforce a story.
Mark Sutton Vane took a degree in Architecture then designed theatre lighting and laser light shows for Kate Bush and Jean Michel Jarre. In 1989, using his architectural experience he moved into architectural lighting design and established the London based lighting consultancy Sutton Vane Associates in 1995.
Sutton Vane Associates has designed the lighting for schemes all over the UK and around the world. Their work has involved the London Olympics, the Crown Jewels, Magna Carta, HMS Victory, York Minster and many other high profile projects. Mark regularly lectures about lighting design and its importance. He supports lighting design education. The practice places emphasis on sustainable lighting, telling the story of the project through light and meeting the needs of the client and users.
