Acceptable in the 80's? Current Column Conditions

by James Hill, Director - Electrical Testing

A different way to look at current column conditions with a question asked at the end… do we expect too much from a lighting column?

With the ILP’s Technical Report 22 Managing a vital asset: lighting supports due its latest review and the first since the introduction of local authority austerity measures, the document is an important step towards predicting current column life. Hopefully this presentation will encourage an industry review on the current level of funding applied to column replacement.

James has been the Director of Electrical Testing Ltd for 13 years and previously a PGA Qualified Class AT Golf Professional now competing on the Mid-Amateur circuit.

This award winning paper was also given at the London and South Eastern Regional Technical meeting in January 2017 and has been included in this event programme due to overwhelming recommendation from the audience there.

"An exceptional paper,! Very interesting and caused a huge amount of debate, looking at the ageing UK column stock, the issue that it is not being replaced, and the ramifications that this is going to cause." Nathan French, ILP London & South East Region Chairman 2016-17
