STICKY TOFFEE LEDs - the application of LED technology in the public realm and built environment

Anthony Smith IEng MILP
Director, Stainton Lighting Design Services Ltd

Anthony will present two major LED schemes completed this year. The Toffee Factory is the opening phase of massive regeneration in Newcastle with a brief for the lighting to be vibrant and interesting as well as clean and professional. Durham Castle is quite the opposite with the lighting having to be sympathetic to the history and stature of both the building and its location withinDurham’s World Heritage site.

Both schemes are totally LED, within the public realm, owned by local authorities, had strict energy efficiency criteria and had key goals of sustainability and buildability despite their very different uses. This presentation is a real eye opener to the possibilities that LEDs have brought to today’s lighting professional.

LEDS ON OUR STREETS

Martin Dunwell MBA BSc CEng MILP
Head of Design Services,LancashireCounty Council

Martin will report on Lancashire County Council’s experience of replacing more than 10% of their 106,000 residential street lights with LEDs. He will cover issues including design, energy usage, controls and maintenance. Don’t miss this session to discover just what LED streetlighting is like in the real world.

REAL LIFE LED INSTALLATIONS: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

Alan Tulla IEng FILP
Alan Tulla Lighting

We have all heard claims that LED is the perfect form of lighting. This presentation will challenge the idea of LEDs as a panacea, assessing an array of LED schemes – balanced of course with guidance on ‘How To Do It Well’. Discover how to ‘stay good’ and avoid the bad and the ugly!

EDUCATION AND LEDS

David Burton CEng MILP
ILP Vice President Education

LEDs can’t be treated in the same way as traditional light sources and this affects lighting professionals responsible for specification, design, installation and maintenance. David will examine the specific requirements for education that LEDs have generated and reveal how the Institution is providing this knowledge. Make sure you attend this session to stay ahead of the game.
